Although the electricity distribution network is equipped with protection mechanisms, some power surges that occur during thunderstorms can damage electrical equipment such as the MEOBox. Therefore, during a thunderstorm, if you are not using our services, we recommend that you disconnect MEO equipment from the mains and avoid any possible malfunctions.
WhichWhat devices should I turn off?
Turn off all MEO equipment in your home that is connected to electricity. The equipment to be switched off depends on the technology of your MEO service. You can turn them off using the ON/OFF button on the back of the equipment or, if you prefer, remove the plug from the power socket.
- ADSL> Turn off the MEOBOX, the router, and the cable connected to the gray port on the router labeled "DSL" (which connects the telephone jack to the router)
- SATELLITE> Turn off the MEOBOX.
- FIBER> Turn off the MEOBOX, the router, and, if present, also turn off the ONT device connected to the router.
How do I turn the equipment back on?
When the storm is over, or whenever you need to use the services again, switch on the equipment in the following order:
- Connect the router and, if present, the ONT. This connection is only complete when the lights on the front of the device stabilize, which takes about 5 minutes
- After turning on the router and the lights are stable, you should turn on the MEOBox and it will take about 5 minutes to restart.
If you have any questions, or if the service doesn't connect, contact customer Support (see the plan), or MEO Empresas customer Support (see plan).
