Social Internet Tariff

  • What is the Social Internet Tariff (TSI)?

    The Social Internet Rate, also known as TSI, is a Broadband Internet service with a minimum speed of 12 Mbps (download) and 2 Mbps (upload) and a monthly data limit of 15 GB.

     
    The TSI was established under Decree-Law No. 66/2021, of July 30, and the model, procedures, and conditions necessary for its implementation are set forth in Administrative Order No. 274-A/2021, of November 29.


  • Price and conditions of the Social Internet Tariff 

    The characteristics are as follows:

    • Minimum speed: 12 Mbps (download) and 2 Mbps (upload)

    • usage allowance: 15 GB/month.

    • Monthly fee: €6.15 (VAT included)

    • Activation service: €26.38 (VAT included) - payable in one lump sum on the first invoice or in 24 instalments.

      In order to use the service, MEO will provide the necessary equipment, namely an internet router.

  • Who can benefit from the Internet Social Plan

    Individuals in the following situations are eligible:

    • Beneficiaries of the Elderly Solidarity Supplement

    • Beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income

    • Beneficiaries of unemployment benefits

    • Beneficiaries of family allowance

    • Beneficiaries of the old-age social pension

    • Beneficiaries of social disability pension under the special disability protection regime or social inclusion support supplement

    • Households with an annual income of €5,808.00 or less, plus 50% for each member of the household who has no income, including their own, up to a limit of 10 people.

     

    Each household can only benefit, at any given time, from one TSI offer, with the exception of university students who are part of households benefiting from TSI and are relocated to other municipalities for studying purposes.


  • What services can I use with the Social Internet Tariff?

    Internet access via the IST allows the use of at least the following services:

    • Email

    • Search engines that allow you to search for and consult all types of information

    • Basic online training and educational tools

    • Newspapers or online news

    • Purchasing or ordering goods or services online

    • Job search and job search tools

    • Professional networking

    • Internet banking

    • Using Online Government Services

    • Use of social networks and instant messaging

    • Calls and video calls (with standard quality).


  • How to apply for the Social Internet Tariff

    To join TSI, fill in the form with the details requested for the tariff. 

    Interested parties should preferably provide an email address to receive a copy of the form after submitting it, as well as to receive the necessary documentation to formalize the contract.

    In the case of displaced university students from eligible households, the application must also be accompanied by a declaration of enrolment at a higher education establishment and a document proving the current address of residence (rental contract, accommodation contract which can be in a university residence or in a private residence, certificate of residence issued by the parish council, invoices for essential public services, etc.).


  • How the Social Internet Tariff is allocated

    If you are a beneficiary who falls into one of the foreseen situations To access the TSI, you must submit your request.

    MEO forwards the request to ANACOM to verify the eligibility of the interested party by consulting the Social Security services and the Tax and Customs Authority.

    After ANACOM verifies MEO's eligibility:

    • In eligible cases, it completes the IST activation process.

    • For ineligible cases, an e text will be sent to inform you of the decision. Here's what you can do next. 


  • I meet one of the eligibility criteria for the Social Internet Rate, but my application was denied. What should I do?

    In these cases, you must resubmit the request for reassessment by ANACOM, attaching the document(s) proving the situation to the form.

  • How long does the Social Internet Tariff last?

    Eligibility for the Social Internet Rate depends on maintaining the eligibility criteria that justified its awarding.

    Every year, ANACOM confirms that the beneficiary's eligibility condition has been maintained. Without prejudice, any beneficiary who no longer meets the requirements for the award of the IST must notify MEO within 30 days.

    In the case of university students, they must provide MEO with the necessary information (portuguese tax number, tax address, proof of enrolment at the higher education establishment and their current address of residence) by October 31st of each year, so that ANACOM can give its opinion.

    MEO may, at any time, verify with ANACOM the eligibility of TSI beneficiaries. If eligibility is not confirmed, MEO may, within 30 days and upon prior communication, terminate the provision of TSI..


  • The Social Internet Tariff has retention period

    TSI has no minimum contract term, nor is there any penalty for breach of contract. However, if the subscriber has opted to pay the activation fee in 24 installments and the service is deactivated before that period ends, MEO will charge the remaining installments on the final bill.

  • How to control the consumption of the monthly usage allowance

    Whenever the beneficiary reaches 80% or 100% of the included credit limit, they will receive an alert notification.

  • How to Get an Extra Credit Limit

    After using up the data allowance, the subscriber can purchase additional 15GB bundles for €6.15, valid until the end of the month, while maintaining minimum speeds of 12 Mbps (download) and 2 Mbps (upload). To purchase, use the contact methods indicated by MEO in the data usage notifications or call the customer support lines [961 001 620] (call charges apply to the MEO mobile network). While roaming, the cost of a call to Portugal is based on your plan and roaming plan . In Zone 1, the cost is that of a domestic voice call to other networks outside the allowance (if applicable) or 16 200 (free call for automated service and technical support). Assistance with other matters is charged at the rate of a call to the corresponding MEO network, with a maximum cost of €2. For plans that include calls to the MEO network, the base rate plus an additional monthly charge of 20 cents per minute applies, with a maximum charge of €2 per call. From other national networks, the rate is 50.9 cents per minute, with a maximum charge of €5.94.

  • I'm already a MEO customer. Does this change my service?

    TSI and its assignment have no connection to its MEO services. 

    For inquiries or changes to your current MEO service, we are always available at my MEO orat support lines or via the MEO customer [961 001 620 (cost of a call to the MEO mobile network). At roaming, the cost is that of a call to Portugal according to plan and roaming.
