EDI invoice

EDI what is it
The EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system allows documents issued, transmitted and received to be sent in a structured format that facilitates automatic and electronic processing.
Since January 1, 2021, MEO has been legally obliged to issue its invoices in EDI Electronic Invoicing. Resulting from the Public Contracts Code, in article 299-B, in conjunction with the provisions of D.L. 123/2018, of 28/12, and the amendments introduced by D.L. 14-A/2020, of 07/04.
- Because it does not comply with European standards, sending an invoice and a customer on an EDI invoice is not considered an EDI invoice:
- PDF format, sent by e-mail (PDF)
- Unstructured invoices issued in PDF or Word;
- Invoice images, in jpg, tiff or other format; Unstructured invoices in HTML, on a web page or in an e-mail;
- OCR - Optical Character Recognition (scanning of paper invoices);
- Paper invoices sent as images via fax.
Advantages of EDI Electronic Invoicing
- Faster delivery, security, reliability and confidentiality of transmitted data;
- Direct integration into customers' ERP systems. This eliminates manual top-up processes, increases the reliability of uploaded data and reduces costs;
- Dematerialization of other associated administrative processes, for example: requests for regularizations, acceptance of credit notes, etc;
- Reduced environmental impact.
