MEOS programme contributes to reforestation in Góis - Post Fire
Following the fires of October 15, 2017, AMI and theMEOS programme joined forces once again in a support campaign.
The success achieved by the rehabilitation of the burnt area in Folgosinho (Gouveia - Serra da Estrela), with the unprecedented use of drones for sowing, led AMI to apply part of the Fire Emergency Fund, co-financed by theMEOS programme, to another area.
The town of Góis, Coimbra, was chosen because it was the scene of the third largest fire in 2017, with 17,521 hectares of burned area. This intervention, carried out between October 1 and 6, 2018, ensured the rehabilitation of 7 hectares of land devastated by the fires with the help of around 100 local volunteers and 30 technicians, which represented more than 3,000 trees planted. A follow-up period is currently underway to monitor the land and verify the success of the planting.
