MEOS programme contributes to reforestation in Góis - Post Fire
Following the fires of October 15, 2017, AMI and theMEOS Programme have teamed up again in a campaign of support.
The success achieved in rehabilitating the burnt area in Folgosinho (Gouveia - Serra da Estrela), with the unprecedented use of drones for sowing, led AMI to apply part of the Fire Emergency Fund, co-financed by theMEOS Programmeon another plot of land.
The town of Góis, Coimbra, was chosen because it was the scene of the third largest fire in 2017, with 17,521 hectares of burned area. In this intervention, which took place between October 1 and 6, 2018, 7 hectares of land devastated by the fires were rehabilitated with the help of around 100 local volunteers and 30 technicians, representing more than 3,000 trees planted. A follow-up period is currently underway to monitor the land and verify the success of the planting.
