MEO Empresas Talks: Artificial Intelligence, an unstoppable revolution

Artificial intelligence (AI) was the topic chosen for the second session of MEO Empresas Talks. This is a technology that is transforming the way organizations work, with applications that allow for the automation of routine tasks, support for customer, with chatbots, predictive analysis and cyber security in real time. It is therefore an unstoppable revolution.

Nuno Nunes, Chief Sales Officer (CSO) B2B at Altice Portugal, opened the event and highlighted how AI has changed the way we relate to time and technology. "If we add the variable of time to the variable of technology and to that we add AI, we can speed up time. What we used to do in months we can do in minutes, what we used to do in hours we can do in seconds," he said.

For Nuno Nunes, "companies that are positioned in this area, in this way of being, will have an immense competitive advantage. I'm sure that AI will no longer be a choice, but a must-have that will be part of our lives and our society."

Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, Lawyer and Partner at Pérez-Llorca, then spoke about the legal and compliance issues. "There are many uncertainties about what the future of AI will bring, among them the issues of legal compliance and business ethics which, if not taken into account and if they do not follow the standards already defined by the European Union, could have an impact on the image and credibility of companies," he said.

For him, before organizations think about implementing AI or focusing on the European regulation, they should look inwards and ask themselves a few questions: "what are you going to use artificial intelligence for?", "what rules have you already defined?", "is there a risk analysis of the tools you are going to use?" or even "are there already well-defined governance policies?"

"AI is not an IT issue, it's much more than that. It's a strategic issue for any company," he said, adding that it's a decision for an executive committee, because "the company that isn't embracing AI is going to be left behind".

The event ended with a panel featuring Jorge Sousa, Head of Busisness Communication at Altice Labs, Miguel Pinto, Marketing Director at Continental Advanced Antenna Portugal, and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes.

Jorge Sousa spoke about BOTSchool, developed with the aim of "democratizing access to this type of technology for the business community, which can help organizations with their problems. It's typically centered on the communication relationship between the company and customers", said our colleague from Altice Labs.

A practical example of the use of BOTSchool is webchat, which "can support a customer service process, where customer calls and wants to know the status of an invoice, or more complex tasks such as solving technical problems," he explained.

MEO Empresas is promoting a cycle of three debates on current issues of interest to our customers members, seeking to inform and alert Portuguese companies to current issues of great interest to our business. The first MEO Empresas Talks was dedicated to Cybersecurity, the second to Artificial Intelligence and the next will be on 5G.
