In 2023, the first Corporate Padel League ran from January to March and brought together 192 teams from mainland Portugal and the islands. A total of 24 companies from the regional competitions in Aveiro, the Azores, Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto and Madeira made their way to the national stage and took to the field to fight for the gold medal.
Nestlé Portugal, in the women's category, and Hotel da Baixa, in the men's category, were the champions.
The feeling of winning the title of first national padel champion is fantastic," confesses Francisco Bordalo, team captain and CEO of Hotel da Baixa. "I've been playing padel for more than ten years and have taken part in many tournaments, but the competitive level of the Corporate Padel League was a surprise."
Patrícia Relvas, team captain at Nestlé Portugal, shares the same opinion: "This type of initiative fosters team spirit among colleagues and allows the company itself to set an example - that health is also important for achieving the so-called work life balance."
A padel league by Negócios
Coverage of the 2nd edition of the event will once again be the responsibility of Jornal de Negócios, which will be present at all the regional and national stages. "The first edition went very well and it makes perfect sense for Medialivre and Negócios to partner again in this initiative," said Luís Santana, CEO of Medialivre, at the press conference.
"There are currently 250,000 practitioners, a very significant number of people who enjoy practicing this sport, so we're going to do our best to ensure that the event gains more notoriety and becomes a landmark for paddle tennis in Portugal," adds Luís Santana.
"Media coverage of the competition is essential to increase the visibility of the sport," recalls Ricardo Oliveira, president of the Portuguese Padel Federation.
Registration is now open
Ready to wear your company's jersey? The championship will be played between men's and women's teams, with a minimum of six and a maximum of ten players. Teams cannot be mixed and each team will have a captain, the person responsible for representing the players, managing the team members and defining the line-up of pairs.
The competition will always be formed in groups of four teams, so each team will have at least three matches, resulting in a minimum of nine games. Apply individually for each team at meocorporatepadelleague.negocios.pt with the company's details, the captain's contact details, the region where you want to take part and the gender of the team members.
Each company can enter several teams in the race and in different regions. You will then be contacted to formalize the rest of the process and pay the registration fee of 500C + VAT per team.
Team registrations take place up to seven days before the respective stage. Once the company has registered, it is the captain's responsibility to add their players to the competition on the Corporate Padel League website or app up to one week before.
Each team must have at least one employee from the company represented and members of a team cannot play for other teams, even if they are from the same company.
The maximum number of places per region is limited, and this limit varies from region to region, depending on the number of fields and test days available.
Hurry up because if the number of teams exceeds the established limit for each region, the criteria applied to determine which entry will be admitted to the competition begin with the date and time of registration, followed by the date and time of payment of the registration fee.
This event has the sponsorship of MEO Empresas as naming sponsor and Negócios, Lusíadas and Mimosa Proteína as official sponsors, as well as the support of Vila Galé Hotels.
The Sumo agency is the partner responsible for communicating the initiative and the brands Carlsberg, Nicola Café, Cork Padel, Fisiogaspar, Copigés, Fiúza, Tie Player, Stampers Publicidade and Grupo Bensaúde are the official partners.
