At the Millenium Estoril Tennis Open, which took place this weekend, MEO Empresas teamed up with CNN Portugal to broadcast the sporting event via a private 5G network, considered to be the first to be carried out using this technology. "Three 5G SIM cards were used to support the broadcast, which ran consecutive sessions until 6pm on Sunday," explained SAPO TEK.
During the Estoril Open weekend, the MEO network recorded 108 GB of traffic to support the broadcast of the sporting event over 5G. Uplink data consumption accounted for 99% of this traffic in the first HD television broadcast supported by the 5G private mobile network. It served above all to demonstrate the benefits and advantages that 5G technology offers for broadcasting sporting events, when complemented by a virtual private mobile network, the operator said in the statement.
MEO explains that this was the ideal environment to put a private network to the test, which was specifically designed and configured to ensure live transmission, since there was a large amount of equipment on site, which usually slows down conventional networks. The operator says that the private mobile network had the conditions for intensive use, without failures and with high quality.
The Private Custom Network is a new solution from MEO Empresas that is designed and customized for this type of operation and tailored to the needs of each organization. The company adds that it combines the best of the 5G network with the exclusivity and security of private networks. It can be used in sectors such as industry, logistics, health and the media. This solution provides access to a self-care portal, so that companies can configure the connectivity features of each device connected to the network, as well as setting up alerts and notifications.
Companies can also consult communication reports and run connectivity diagnostic tests. According to MEO, mobility becomes a differentiating factor in television operations, giving teams more agility and ease of implementation.
